I need help right now

I just got a new sshd that I was going to use for my laptop since it's factory one died, I was going to download windows 7 onto a drive but i couln't , I needed a key. I put the preinstalled windows key from that laptop in and it didin't work because of that. How do i get my laptop to work? Please help asap!

upgrade to Win 10 for free or send in the dead drive for factory recovery of data.

There is no call thingy. Laptop is from dell also.

Sometimes calling Microsoft is the way to go. It can be a huge pain but use it while you still have the support.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

I refuse to use Kinguin anymore. When they charged against my canceled credit card for no reason I stopped trusting them.

here, DM me if you would like my old Windows 8 key i don't need then use https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 to download windows 8 to a usb key. install windows and activate using the key I will DM to you. after that, go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade to download the upgrade assistant and go from there.

This is a bit of a legal grey area... I wouldn't use Kinguin.

If it was Windows 10, just reinstall Windows 10 and skip the licence key part of the installation process. Windows will automatically recognise your hardware and activate for you.

how do I reinstall windows 10 on a dead drive. Also, I cant download windows 10 cuz I need key.

You need to use another computer to make some installation media. So you need an 8GB+ USB flash drive and use this tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Then plug it into your dead computer and reboot - installing as usual.

 

You don't need a key because Windows 10 will have automatically logged your computer hardware (MAC Address etc).

I don't know if they still do it, but in the past DELL has included the keys for the OS on a sticker underneath the keyboard.  If you can find a guide for disassembling your laptop online, you probably have a good chance of seeing if it's there.  Usually getting the case off is one of the easier disassembly steps, but if you 'f it up, you can break something.

 

EDIT:  Sorry, I saw that you had tried a key, but didn't realize it was the factor one.  My bad.
