Workstation for CAD and rendering

Hey guys,

This is my third build and I was asked by a friend of mine to build him a workstation that he would use for CAD and rendering 3D objects. He wanted a mATX case so it'd be slightly more portable. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Go for 8600k+1080 instead

Faster memory, 2133mhz is so meh... it does help on CAD and all, also the most important thing on 3d rendering is the CUDA Acceleration should totally try going for a GTX 1080 or even 1080 Ti if budget allows so, can be Founders Edition it doesn't matter look for the cheapest and there is absolute no point in getting a M.2 normal SSD, just go with the SATA 3 Evo for more space for cheaper (performance wise it is the same and you have the space to put it either ways).

Will there really be a huge difference between the 1070 and 1080 or 1080ti? I know that when it comes to performance per dollar the higher you go in models the lower the returns. I picked the 1070 because there is a pretty big step between the 1070 and 1060 but is that step as noticeable between the 1070 and 1080s?

Yes it is especially because you'll be working with CUDA Acelleration so the more CUDA cores you have obviously the best performance you're getting in a way the graphics card for these workloads of your interest is more meaningful than the CPU itself, an i5 8600k + 1080 would be better performing than the i7 8700k + 1070 for instance.

 

Obviously CPU has its share and you still have to keep it strong to keep up with the GPU so if you go with a 1080 Ti you will want to have the i7 under the hood as well.
