My Desktop Is Not Posting

Go to solution Solved by byalexandr,

Got it, resetting the CMOS did the trick.

So, all plugs are firmly plugged into place, I've tried hitting the reset button, holding the power button for 5 seconds, turning the PSU off and on again, but all that happens is my PC turns on (with the LED lighting and fans and all) but my peripherals have no power, there is no video output, and it just sits there doing nothing.

Any clue as to what might be going on? I checked all of the actual power connectors and everything in the PC as well, everything should be in working order but the PC will not display any video and my peripherals have no power so I can't even go into the BIOS or anything.

I've had this problem before, but usually it fixes itself once I hold the power button and try again. Now my PC is completely stuck and I have no clue what to do at this point.

Specs are as follows:

Ryzen 1600

BioStar X370GTN Mini ITX AM4

8GB DDR4

Samsung 850 EVO

WD Blue

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X

Define Nano S

EVGA BQ 650W

Corsair RGB Pro Lighting

Any ideas? Maybe it's this stupid motherboard that I have? I've heard tons of issues about it but I don't really know what other  mITX boards there are that are AM4.

Could very well be the motherboard if multiple people have experienced the same issue.

I don't know if people experience this exact same issue, but I have read that people have issues with the BIOS and stuff. But not really anything like this. I don't know if it's really dead or if something is just not right.

Considering that it's persisted for a while (at least that's what I can assume), it could very well have shit the bed for one reason or another.

Dual channel RAM, by any chance?

Dual channel memory but I have a single stick right now.

Alright, seems like we've probably ruled one thing out.

Do you have another GPU to test with?

No, my 1070 is the only one I have, I'm at my college right now, didn't really bring any spare PC parts.

Dammit.

I'm a little stumped then. I'm still maintaining that the motherboard itself kinda killed itself.

I'm with Dan. It sounds like the motherboard is completely borked, that's one of the few reasons that even your peripherals wouldn't get power.

I'm thinking the same thing. Once I get back from class I'm going to basically rebuild the whole PC, just to make sure there isn't anything that isn't plugged in right or whatever. Wish I had some thermal paste as well so I can reseat the CPU but eh. I'll post back to let y'all know how that goes.

If the motherboard is dead then I'm a little f*cked, as I do use this PC for CAD and stuff for my homework...

There might be cheap Ryzen mobos around you. Shouldn't be too hard to pick one up.

I guess it wouldn't be easy to find that locally. I guess you already know the two that are available from Newegg, but Newegg free shipping isn't fast.

Haven't yet, had to go to class. But I will try that as well before I take it all apart.

I'm actually surprised that more have come out since I last got my current motherboard.

Yeah, only five on PCPP. The Biostar one you have, and an ASRock one for X370, and a Gigabyte and ASRock board for B350. The ASRock X370 board is the most expensive. The fifth one isn't for sale.

That last one is available on Amazon, but without Prime shipping.

I'm looking at the AsRock X370 one right now. Reading reviews as well to make sure it doesn't have as many issues as the BioStar one I currently have.

I think it has the most features, though it is $40 over the board you have, and $30 over the Gigabyte B350 board (the second most expensive).

Yeah I'm changing my case to a Phanteks Evolv Shift, should make it a lot smaller than my Nano S. Plus all that tempered glass :x

Get the B350 one, to start, since you don't need SLI in a mini ITX system. Second, if you want to OC the 3-phase design kinda sucks so you have to set vcore really high to hit a stable OC.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Wow that case is nice

I still like the slightly larger cases like the Evolv ITX tho. They look like traditional cases, just... smaller. The Nano S is really big tho.

Double checking, where is the display connected to? The motherboard or the GPU?

Ryzen has no integrated graphics, the display MUST be connected to the GPU.

The X370GTN is a fine board. Not for overclocking, but as-is is not bad (I owned it since June).
