You can help deaden the sound but nothing will be 100%. You can take some old blankets and quilts and tack them up to the wall.

 

This stuff should help as well and it is only about a buck a square foot.

Ooof. I suggested egg cartons glued to the ceiling & wall once (in a forum).  It was NOT recommended.  Whenever I visit a fabric store with my wife, I'm unnerved by the dampening effect of the rows upon rows of cloth. @lieder1987 and @huilun02 seem to have the right idea. 

 

My challenge is light pollution from the LCD beaming down the condominium hallway and waking up my spouse. We'll be putting up blackout curtains at the hallway entrance so that my bias lighting doesn't disturb her.
