Hey all,

so im trying to have a steady 144fps on 1080p for overwatch. I run it on epic settings but even if I were to dial down the graphics to low it still doesn’t want to stay at 144. It will jump from 80-120 and back and my CPU usage will stay at 100%. I have already check the task manager to turn off programs running in the background. My temps are normal as usual (40 celcius for CPU, 65 for GPU) . Anything else I should check ?

My specs are:

GTX 1080ti

I5-7600k

crucual 16GB RAM DDR4

120GB SSD sandisc

1TB Western digital HDD

7600K is weak garbage.

It has only 4 cores

It will max out in most games.

You need at least 8600K (7700K) to push higher refresh rate

My 4690k at stock clocks could get 144fps on Overwatch at Ultra, so I'll take a guess and say you're not quite sure what you're talking about.

core i5 CPU's have been hitting 100% load in various games since about early 2014...it's nothing new.

Edited it "it is pretty weak".

1080Ti is too thicc for the poor 4core i5 to handle.

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

See original quote. "Weak garbage " is wrong; there's a reason people, even people on these forums had been recommending i5s for those who couldn't afford i7s & before Ryzen existed.

Just means the 1080ti won't perform as well as it could be.

OP:  Have you ensured your render scale is set to 100%? My 1070 automatically sets itself to 140% render scale.

I think it is but I will double check

Anybody know how I can check which programs are eating my CPU? If that’s what it is

Look around in task manager to see anything pulling usage from applications. Down on your lower right task bar, see if anything could be trying to run in the background (Sometimes razer synaps gives me issues but that could just be me). See if anything is hiding in the background while you are running overwatch as well

you are cpu bottleneck it is pushing all it has but the 1080ti is running circles around it.

Ex frequent user here, still check in here occasionally. I stopped being a weeb in 2018 lol

agree, that would be the case in most games and also in overwatch, but look at this video here, this guy is using a GTX 1060 and a core i5-7600K (overclocked to 4.5ghz but still..) and he is getting more than 150FPS pretty much at all time and the CPU is running at like 80% load...OP might have a malware or a virus or some shit that doesn't show up in task manager but it's clearly eating his machine alive cause from the informations i gathered that game is well optimized and very easy to drive:

EDIT: BOOM....at 1:18 he says this performance video was recorded with his test system which has a core i7 CPU...so there goes that video :(

Use DSR would still hit fps and all even if balances out the usages, as every one has been saying why buy the most expensive GPU in the market and pair it with just an i5?

Why do you run on Epic settings anyway? Sure, it may look nice, but it doesn't help you at all. In fact, it increases the ground clutter, foliage, fog, shadows (which are good but you only need Medium), all make hitting your target more difficult. There's a reason all the pros use Low settings. Maximum FPS gives you the best advantage.

My Overwatch Settings (texture filtering quality doesn't affect fps)

I would look into overclocking the CPU. Something mild at first to see if there's improvement and to monitor temperature changes.

The issue is even with everything set to low I still cant keep a 144fps. It stays at an average of 115 or even lower

Something is definitely wrong then. Your i5 7600k, even at stock clock, should be kicking Overwatch's ass.

https://www.testufo.com/ - What does it show as your Frame Rate and Refresh Rate?

Have you tried MalwareBytes and maybe an Anti-Virus to check for issues?

What kind of Cinebench R15 scores do you achieve?
