Should I Wait For Volta

So I recently ordered the Massdrop Vast 35-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor. I currently am using a GTX 970 to power my games, but I don't think that will cut it for 3440x1440 at 100hz. I have to opportunity to grab a 1080ti around Christmas, but the monitor doesn't ship until mid February of 2018. Would it be wise to just be patient and wait for volta, or will it end up being released late 2018. Thanks in advance!

Depends if you want to game to your full potential now or later. Personally I'd grab a 1080Ti if it goes on sale on Black Friday. Your 970 will have a pretty hard time pushing the pixels on that monitor.

if you take the idea that every year and half we get new gpus I would say at around June they will start to trickle down new gpus starting high end going down so that would mean wait maybe 4 months after getting the monitor but this all a guess I would just look at what Nivida are up two right now and see if they have any events coming up soon.

I agree with this. There's also a chance the monitors from Massdrop will be delayed, because that isn't unheard of with them. Unless your 970 is unsatisfactory for your current gaming, wait until you have the monitor on-hand. It won't take that long for a GPU from a retailer to ship, and by early 2018 we may or may not have additional news on the next generation of GPUs. Can't hurt to wait a little.

How are you doing now? If you're okay with what you have until Volta is released, then wait for Volta. If not, then don't wait for Volta.

Honestly, since AMD dropped their Vega cards and the benchmarks showing that they are equivalent to the GTX 1070/1080, NVIDIA has no reason to drop Volta as the 1080ti is still the highest perfoming card in the pile. I’d say go 1080ti.

I would personally wait for Volta, because that means you can save up some more money and see a larger performance increase than if you had just bought a Pascal card. I've got a 750 Ti and it's doing just fine in games.
