what would be the absolute best cpu for $225 or less for gaming and also a bit of video rendering

i5 8400 if you can fork over the money for a Z370 motherboard.

well not sure about the US but in the UK you can get a ryzen 5 1600x for just over 190 - 210 GBP

My speakers dont even fit on or under my desk...PA's FTW

For gaming the 8400 is definitely better. For content creation it depends, in multi threaded scenarios the 1600 (don't get a 1600x) wins, in single threaded scenarios the 8400 wins, so I would say it's a wash for content creation.

maybe R5 1600 or a older 6th genertaion I5 6600K becuase I think they are at around 225 right now sadly not 6 cores but still pretty good.
