3x3 MIMO vs 2x2 MIMO

Noyu
Go to solution Solved by AdmnPower,

I would look at the processor speeds on the routers. A lot of times a router with 3x3 will have a faster processor than one with 2x2. You wouldn’t see any data rate advantage on your 2x2 or 1x1 clients but the router has potential to handle a larger number of connected clients more easily due to its higher spec.

Hi! It's me again with my I can't find it on google questions hahaha

I have a clarification with 3x3 MIMO routers.

Say I only have 2x2 MIMO devices (and maybe some 1x1).

Will buying a 3x3 MIMO (AC1750) wireless router give me any advantage over a 2x2 MIMO one (AC1200). Assuming their both dual-band.

Sorry I'm pretty noob when it comes to technical specifications for networking.

Nope - only forwards compatibility when you get 3x3 devices

No unless your current devices supports it, it might give you future compatibility with 3x3 devices.

Personally, i would save the money and maybe in future where your current router is broken or when majority of device support it and needs it, than i would buy it.
