Posted October 13, 2017 I currently have a 5820K and I am wanting to make the move to the 7820X. Yes I am aware that moving to the latter is a minimal upgrade (for 2 cores no less). Seeing as prices for the 5960X and 6900K have not come down by any stretch. Getting a 7820X and a new X299 board actually cost a tad bit less, about 1000USD either way. Money in this case is not an issue, I just thought I would ask and see what some of my fellow folks thought of doing such a thing. Thanks. Posted October 13, 2017 I would sell all your desktops and use the money to build one with a 7980XE. Then instead of building more systems of the same generation, I would build older ones for more variety and to compare hardware of different generations. I may even split it in half with a Linux and Windows GPU passthrough solution (remember the unraid build?). Linux does some wonderful things sometimes.
