Hi all

So my mum is a housekeeper and lives on site (the people she works for are millionaires and live on a huge estate). She's living in a house thats roughly 100-150ft away from the main house.

At the moment she has no wifi and the owners don't want to pay for any fixed line connection to her property.

I'm trying to find a product that will either boost the signal strength of the WiFi at the main house so she can pick up the signal, or ideally, something that will pick up the signal from her end and broadcast it through her house so she can use her mobile devices as well as her laptop without needing any ethernet cables or stuff like that.

Is there anything out there that will accomplish this? My search strings on amazon weren't the best and so far I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for.

Thanks in advance!

100ft is a huge distance to travel, especially assuming router isn't at the edge of their house.  You could get a WiFi extender (this one is really good), but I doubt it will meet your needs.

Actually, try this one.  A reviewer said he got WiFi 250 feet away from his house with it.

That's great thanks alot for your help. I'm sure my mum will appreciate it :P

You'll probably have to do some trial and error on finding the best place to put it.  I'd say start 1/3 the distance between the router and your mom's house (as in closer to the router).

If there's some room with a window or something with direct line of sight with that building where you mom lives, maybe you could try setting up an access point in that room with line of sight.

There are powerline adapter kits, where you connect one device to the router and plug it in the mains socket and the other device (which could have ethernet ports AND a wireless access point) can be plugged in another room in the house. You could plug this device in a room with a window with line of sight to your mom's place and then you'd have only one wall between them or only a window (if the device can be positioned somehow so that the wall won't block the direct radio path)

Could probably even put the 2nd device somewhere on the roof with a power cable going into the building somewhere.

Some wifi  802.11g or 802.11n  would propagate up to 150ft , she won't get 300 mbps or something like that but on 2.4 ghz it should work.  g in theory works up to 300ft/ 90 meters and 802.11n works up to 1200ft / 365 meters

Here's an example of a kit : https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-PowerLINE-1000-802-11ac-Gigabit/dp/B01929V7ZG/

You can find cheaper with just 802.11n , for example this one at 55$ but it has no external antennas so I'm not sure how far the wireless signal would reach with this kit : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I6EY1JI/

Get a repeater with detachable antenas and get or build long range antennas.
