Cooler is overpriced, also you cant overclock the i5 even with a cooler and a z board because its not a k skew.

Anyway, i would channel some of your money to the gpu and get a 1060 to crush games @1080p-1440p.

also you still need some storage.

Gaming, not the highest and new games, highest game I'd play is probably GTA V.

You don't need 6 cores for GTA, just get a Ryzen 1200 or 8100.

Most CPUs come with a stock cooler.

Faster RAM doesn't cost much more.

PSU is sketchy, get a CX/M

This cooler is not needed. Not good enough for overclocking in the future, not cheap enough to stay there.

i'm not changing CPU, it's the best thing for the same price as an older worse i5, what's so sketchy about the powersupply btw?

It's good at its price, but for gaming, you'd be better off spending the money on the GPU.

The PSU is a crappy, group regulated PSU made to be as cheap as possible.

I know you arent (not with this CPU anyway), but just in case you want to use a K CPU in the future, you will need it. Besides, a small air cooler like this doesnt run much more quiet than the stock cooler, so I wouldnt bother buying it. If the stock fan happens to be loud, get the cooler till then so you dont risk losing money.

For the same money spent, 1060 3gb with i3-8100 is better than 1050ti with 8400 in GTA. No doubt on that.

it's not a bad build. 8400 is with the 1050 ti is already good enough some mid rage gaming and works really well as a workstation. btw, try this instead for better cable management https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hkwrH/corsair-power-supply-cp9020102na

But I'm still not sure if it would work.

It will work, but PSU is a bit sketchy and the aftermarket cooler and "Z" series motherboards aren't worth it since you are using a non-k series cpu, which means no overclocking, which your motherboard is specifically ment for, rather no non-k CPU is worth it right now since no mobo's are available for 300 series that are ment for non oc cpu's.And i'd prefer a 1060 with a i5,or even a 1070.

r3 1200 and 1060 is the only logical solution here, also the r3 has a pretty cool stock cooler.

Yeah, the only advantage of a i5 is 6 cores instead of the 4 of the Ryen 3 1200.

@Ofbasecfin You should always get a GPU better/expensive than your cpu.You wouldn't want to pair a 9500GT with a 7980XE (when it comes out) because it was easy to play GTA V on GPU's older than a 960,Pairing a 200$ CPU with a 100$ GPU doesn't make sense,a 200$ GPU and a 100$ CPU would make more sense.Humans are not useless and we have brains better than a dog

Id spend more on the cpu since you can easally upgrade your gpu. CPUs also dont get such a perfora+mance bump.

That prety much changed with Ryzen ant the unlocked CPUs and MOBOs, since its a gaming build the 4c CPU is good enough for most things.

But GPU's are costlier than CPU's that wouldn't bottleneck it.Imagine having to buy a i7/Ryzen CPU with a GT 1030,you will have to upgrade it soon due to bottlenecks,so that money for that GPU is wasted, you can pair a 1080 and a core i3/i5 and wouldn't see bottlenecks.with a i7 1030 you will definately see bottlenecks.Yup,four cores is enough but both Intel and AMD are trying to get 6/8 cores to mainstream and make them our basics, where there is no need to.

it pays off more to get from a r3 to a r5  (50$ diffrence) than a 1050(50-100$)1060(200$)1070

i got a r3 since here a r5 was like almost double the cost of an r3.You're doing it wrong....

For more productivity/cpu dependant tasks, yes thats the case.....

For gaming, definately the opposite.A GPU matters more than the CPU.You can pair a 8100 with a 1060 and expect it to be good. You can pair a G4400 with a 1060-1070,it will be fine or it may have the slightest of bottlenecks not going to matter much in games.Your CPU definately lasts/has more usability in the future than you GPU that you paid the same price for your GPU,or less. Example =  My Core 2 Duo E6550 still felt a bit usable in some less demanding modern games (like minecraft) but my NVIDIA GeForce 8400 (non GS) didn't even feel usable in games. If I put my 1050 TI in that old system it would be definately much better than putting my 8400 in my new system.
