You can reinstall Windows and keep your files through the recovery menu. To get to that you'll likely have to either reboot the machine 3 times and allow it to fail all 3 times (which may or may not present you with automatic recovery) or create a recovery CD or USB using the Windows Media Creation Tool. Once in that menu, you will have the option to reinstall Windows while keeping all your files

That being said, I HIGHLY recommend backing them up to another device or an external hard drive first.

sfsync04.sys is an Starforce 4 game and software  DRM system.

Microsoft completely ban Starforce from Windows 10, as it is considered a rootkit an open systems to serious and exploited security holes, which the company never attempted to fix.

All program using StarForce 4 aren't compatible with Windows 10.

The error you see is that Windows reject the driver component of the DRM system. It is not digitally signed, and Microsoft will never approve it, and refuses the boot.

To fix the issue:

  • Ensure that SecureBoot is enabled in your UEFI. This is critical to avoid boot level rootkits.
  • Insert Windows 10 installation USB or disk, and boot from it selecting "EFI" option of your drive. Then, after you pick your language, select "Repair" option, and go through the menu to do a System Restore. This will bring your system back in time where it used to work fine, without affecting your personal files.

You should be back and running after that.

Other block DRM system by Windows 10: SafeDisc and Securom

[update]

StarForce offer a patch of its DRM system to act as a driver level DRM system for Windows 10.

If I am not mistaken there are no uninstaller for StarForce 4. Once installed, you need to clean install your system with drive format. The only other way is to do a system restore before you installed the program using it.

Where could have the starforce 4 come from? And the cleab isntall will lose all my files if i dont copy them right? And i should try to to get rid of it.

Clean install with format, will delete everything in C:\

Clean install without format (assuming you have the disk space. It will tell you if you don't), will take all files in C:\ and put it in a folder in C:\ called: Windows.OLD. And install Windows. Windows will delete that folder 30 days later. Personally, I recommend to do a backup regardless. Not only you have a backup of your stuff, which is never bad, but if anything screws up due to bad luck, you are fine.

Enabling Secure Boot will prevent any rootkit from working. So if you enable it, assuming it wasn't, and it fails to boot windows, then you'll need to delete the extra recovery and EFI partitions as well in Windows setup to make the setup remake them. Format of C:\ would be needed. Basically, you delete the 2 small partitions, and the partition where Windows is on. It should join all 3 together as 1 automatically. you just pick that free space, and hit Next, and Windows will tell you that it will create some other partitions, which will be the EFI boot and recovery one. So that is easier than it sounds.

But again a System Restore to bring back your system in time should resolve your problem.

I don't know how it got installed. It could be a paying program or an older game (newer version of StarForce should be fine with Windows 10. Probably it reached an acceptable status from Microsoft). I never saw a driver come with it... I would not see the point of it in any case.

So i tried to fix the windows and to restore it to a older state it gives an error that just says it cant restore it. How can i copy my files from the M.2 ssd where i have my windows installed. The clean  install without format where can i find this option and can it make the windows old file copy only on the C drive. And if i do that can i just drag old programs from the OLD windows copy to the new install and they should work fine. Also how can i back up my files if i cant open windows? I have my old windows on my hard drive but when i go to the UEFI only my ssd shows up so i cant boot from my hdd.
