Hey,

I want to have a clean looking build with the res and pump being directly connected. I looked at the pump res combos and they tend to have smaller res' (im using all ek parts for this). I'm planning to use a x3 250 res and im wondering if you can buy the pump with the top that allows the res to easily screw in like in one of the pre-assembled pump-res combos.

By far the most cost effective way is to buy the cheapest pump/res combo from EK and swap the acrylic tube with thishttps://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-res-x3-tube-250-204mm

Edit: fine with both ddc and d5

I have the XSPC D5 Photon, it looks great and the glass is extremely thick compared to other reservoirs so it's safer I guess.

The downside to this one is due to its looks, since the inlet is at the bottom also, it pumps the water back to the bottom instead of lets say the top of the middle where it can get rid of air bubbles as it enters the reservoir. This one has a 170 or a 270mm variant. They are very big like I mentioned due to the thick glass.

When you buy a pump, I would consider you buy a D5 pump rather than a x4 pump since they provide the most power for about 20$ more.

I do have a reservoir like yours, but I don't use it as a combo.

ok. I was going to do that if nothing else worked out. Can you buy a replacement bottom for the small original res? Or will the EK multiport top be fine? Id prefer to have a use for the old res or be able to sell it or give it away in functional condition.

Everyone has their own tastes, as long as you keep to a name brand like you are and not some Chinese offbrand. You should be safe in the risk of cracking res. department. In the end, all reservoirs look good, some look better than others, some like the longer ones, some like the bigger ones and vice versa. Find what fits your case first then decide how long of a reservoir you can put in it. But if you limit yourself to EK then you're limiting your options and if you limit yourself to just Combos then you are REALLY limiting your options.

Yeah, I am willing to stray from EK but I'm kind of a neat freak in my PC and I like to have everything match. I think EK has the best variety, look the best and don't have obnoxious logos like bitspower.

Yeah either get a fancy white bottom https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-res-x3-bottom-white or the TOP will also work as a multiport bottom. If you are fixated about getting a black bottom then youbcan contact EK directly and they can do a custom sale for you.

If the top will work as a bottom (coming to think of it you can probs just rotate it will be a top once again) I'll go with that. Probably an upgrade if anything. Thanks for the help!

Just watch out for the pesky recessed ports and use the extenders where appropriate, otherwise leaky leaky :P

Glad you could be too! Not entirely sure what you mean by that. You mean plugging unused ports? Not sure what you mean with extenders. Elaborate?

some of the ports of the EK reservoirs are recessed, meaning the threads are below the flat surface. If you read the instructions of the reservoir it should clearly indicate which holes are recessed and require the extenders which bring the port "outwards".
