The i3 7100 shouldn't really be bottlenecking a gtx 1060, at least from what I have seen, unless it is under a very cpu intensive game. Personally, I would not get an i5 7500 just yet. I would recommend either a ryzen 5 1600 or even wait a few months and get an i3 8100 when cheaper 300 series motherboards release. Unless bottlenecking is really a concern or you just need more cpu power, I am sure you are fine with your cpu.

at 1080p most games will run fine on a 7100. Its a beefier pentium chip and with minimal yet noticable ipc gains and higher clocks the i3 should be fine as it acts like a quad core. Only stuff like video editing and rendering or gta5 at high resolutions would see a slow down. You should save for a while and invest in a coffee lake i5 unlocked. pair it with a good cooler and you wont need to upgrade for a while. If cash is tight go for a 7600k and then buy the motherboard to oc when ur ready

return your 1050ti and buy either a 1080 or 1080ti, stay with me Ik a 7100 or any i3 will bottleneck but if you wait and buy a new i5 or i7 it will be a deadly combo

I wouldn't stick a 1080 or 1080ti with the i3-7100, 1080 should be with a i5 at least.

As for you system at the moment I doubt a i3-7100 will bottleneck the 1050ti, you could upgrade it to a 1060 or 1070 even seeing as its a gaming rig, yh some games will not run amazing but you should get decent fps @1080p, if you got rid of your gpu and cpu you would have what 700 ish ? I would go i5-7600k and a 1060 if the budget allows as most gameing rigs need a decent cpu and a good gpu depending on the res and moniter size but it does depend on what mother board you have aswell.

The i5-7600k is around $220 and a 1060 is around $280-300

I7 7700K @5.0ghz, Asus Z270-P, Corsair H115i, hyperX 16gb, Asus duel 1070, Nzxt H440

Yeah so i would add $100 more for an i5 7500 and about 300 more for 1080

I wanna know also if i upgrade to 1070 or even a 1080 would my current i3 7100 would hold up to it ? Or i should upgrade my cpu,

it wont hold up but you will still get good performance. Buy a good gpu now and get a good cpu later you will thank me for the performance gains vs a cpu and gpu

i would personally invest in a 1080 and wait to buy an unlocked i5 8600k and a new mobo at the same time

i3 7100 shouldn't really bottleneck a 1060 looking at this

If you're still skeptical about this you could always get the 1060 and if you experience a lot of issues from ANY game you play despite changing graphics settings then upgrade the CPU.

I'd rather get a advice from an experience builder/person like you

if you want future proof buy a 1080, I have a 1060 and I love it but if you want to be set for 3+ years on high at 4k/1440p Id go for it. Just because he has 1000+ posts or has been on since 2013 doesn't mean he's any more experienced than me. I'm not trying to discredit him but if you think about it it's your use case and your choice I think a 1080 is a good future proof as opposed to a 1060 but its your choice.

I would stick with the i3 for now and get a sell the 1050 ti for a 1060.  In a few months, maybe consider a second hand i7 6700/7700.  They're already findable for around $250, but as coffeelake comes into circulation, they should come down more.  As others have mentioned, if you could hold on a bit longer, it may be more worthwhile to upgrade to a Coffeelake or Ryzen setup.

For the time being, I think a 7100 should hold its own in PUBG.
