Currently, I have a Samsung S8. I've been using it since April and it's cool. However, I've dropped the phone MANY times and the screen is completely trashed. I'm continuing to use it and it's cool however it's not the only thing that is nagging at me. Facial recognition (for me) works a third of the time, I can't even set up iris recognition and the fingerprint sensor never seems to work the first time. Also having an irregular aspect ratio can be annoying and if I go fullscreen it can ruin videos and games. I currently can't upgrade, but I plan to soon and I plan to on one of these two phones (or to keep the Samsung S8 and keep it for the rest of the contract. Either the Pixel 2 XL or the iPhone 8. Please don't bring up the iPhone X as that phone costs way too much for me to justify buying.

Between the Pixel and the iPhone, I'd go for the iPhone

I'd go Pixel 2 XL, but that's because I hate iOs. It doesn't really fix your hate of the aspect ratio though.

Why not go with something like the Mate10? Or another phone with a 16:9 aspect ratio?

Also, you shouldn't use facial recognition.

Unless you're unhappy with the core android experience (not performance/UI, but the actual core of how you use android (apps being worse on android in some cases (namely snapchat), the way app installs are handled in android, the deeper but sometimes more confusing way that the operating system works, viruses could be an issue if you torrent some crazy shit, etc.), then I'd go for the pixel 2 XL

TBH, it depends on if you like Android or iOS better. I personally am an Android guy but you may just be an iOS guy.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

The iphone 8 is just for people, who really like apple. You don't seem to be one of them. You seem to be more or less platfrom-agnostic (like me) and for someone who doesn't care about the brand, the pixel seems to be the better deal right now. For me, it compares more to the iphone X than the 8...

Iphone 8 plus between those two choices, although pixel xl 2 is the best android phone right now.  If you are drop prone id consider iphone 7 plus since it has an all aluminum back.

Pixels glass square at the top of the back is idiotic. All the drawbacks of glass(it breaks and  collects finger prints and scratches) with none if the benefits(no wireless charging). Plus it looks like shit. Ill take the look of antenna lines over it any day.

I'm probably going to go for the iPhone 8 on these terms. I personally like its design and it's the fastest out of all of the phones also it has better colors than the pixel. Thanks everyone for giving you opinions.

considering you've destroyed a glass phone already I'd highly recommend you don't get the iphone 8. Get the iPhone 7 or the pixel 2, both are mostly aluminum construction and should be more durable

I just saw you don't like the stretched aspect ratio of the galaxy s8. The pixel 2 has the same aspect ratio. I'd definitely recommend the iPhone 7/7 plus for you keeping that in mind.
