Need help choosing a laptop

Okay so I need a laptop that I will use for college general assignments, projects, and programming. I may also play a view games here and there. My budget is anything below $1200. Please don't advice me to buy a computer I already have one it's just that I want to also have a laptop that I can use for the above. And if you can also state why the laptop is worth the buy i'd greatly appreciate that! I'm really sorry I've never really looked into computer specs but I don't just want to throw my money at someone that won't be worth it. Thanks guys.
