The R9 280X is the least expensive card that I'd recommend getting for a triple monitor setup and AMD really has the market with Eyefinity when it comes to a multiple monitor setup.

If you can afford a R9 290 that would be your best bet when it comes to the performance for the price and it would handle that high of a resolution better than the 280X.

Here is a real world example:

I am running 5760x1080 Eyefinity with Trifire 7970 3gb versions.

That setup runs BF3 Ultra in Eyefinity with framerates that I find smooth. Which means above 60 and preferably no dips below 60.

I've also run Hitman Absolution close to Ultra, but it didn't quite make it smooth enough for me so had to lower some settings.

Here is the bottom line:

It really depends on what you find acceptable in terms of framerate you feel is playable for you and the amount of eyecandy you want to go for. And above all it depends on the title you are playing and how well it works overall. Also if you run SLI or Crossfire those can be big issues with some titles. For example Assassin's Creed 3 was a mess at launch for eyefinity where as earlier AC titles worked just fine for me at least.

There are loads of eyefinity/surround/multi monitor reviews out there on the internets that tell you how well you can expect some titles to run on certain graphics cards.

Don't buy this one. It has a larger ram amount than the buffer can actually supply. A 7970 is 3 Gb capable even if 5241 Gb is soldered to the pcb.

Spoiler

I personally run a 6,000 x 1080 set up with a 7850. (3, 24 inch monitors.)

I run on max graphics, and have 30 FPS minimum.
