I tried to update all of my old XP machines, but none of the updates would go. Which can only lead to one thing. They've begun to kill XP already. Come, mourn with me.

 

You act like this is the first time you heard XP was to be decommissioned, its been announced so many times and with a few extensions.

 

You might get better traction if you have the ROC join in with you, Beijing leans on Microsoft to maintain Windows XP support

BSOD are related to hardware or driver issues.So you are blaming Microsoft for something that isn't an issue. The old days that it was Microsoft, have long passed, hence why there is no "resume"action anymore, when a BSOD occurs.

Yes,because Vista's drivers sucks period at 2007-2008.And what can consumers do about it?Nothing.It does not matter if he have a Pentium 4 machine or a Core 2 Quad,because the drivers just does not freaking work!

Vista is only good if you need help remembering your password, as you need to type it so many times you end up remembering it.

Except on my netbook. It actually LIKED Vista (Ultimate, I might add). No crashes (other than IE), no BSODs, and I was using the Windows 7 drivers. It was faster that what 7 is on it now (sometimes).

Windows 7 drivers are designed much better,that might be the reason.Coz at first when Vista appeared,most drivers will not work properly at all.

That could be. And it certainly helped that my processor was a Dual-Thread (so close to Dual-Core). The thing that really kicked it in the nuts were the Intel GMA 945GME graphics. Are the Intel graphics that come on the Atom N455 much better?

The 945GME graphics are on the chipset(pentium 4 modified chipset and graphics),the Atom does not have IGP built in.

I know the 945GME is, but the N455 has the GMA 3000 or HD 3000 series on-die, chip, or whatever you want to call the Atom in this case.

I've always loved XP. I used XP 2002-2013, and never upgraded to Windows 7 because the aero is sooo ugly. That's why I went straight to 8: no aero, and it doesn't use massive amounts of ram.

 

XP>8>7>Vista

You can deactivate Aero and both w7 and w8 use about 1.5 GB of ram unlike xp that uses like 400 MB.

On my XP machine with 1.5GB of RAM, with 8 tabs open, 1 notepad document, and 2177MB of page file in use, I'm getting 64MB of RAM usage. Best Buy FAILED when they said they would make my PC use less swap when I had them dust it out and tune it up. At idle though, the swap gets emptied, and it hovers around 300MB.

 

On my netbook with Windows 7 Professional and 1GB of RAM, I'm getting 512MB on both with nothing open.

 

Both have avast! 2014, if that makes much of a difference.

Well, it came with my mom's Windows 7 Starter netbook, so I don't see why not. Is it much better than what I have in mine though? If you want to know more about mine, it's the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA. I don't know what hers is though.

Not much,they are built around the same foundation,although the 3150 can render HD videos while the 950 on the 945GMA cannot.

Mine can do 720p in VLC with extra priority, with the chip at 400MHz instead of 166MHz or 200MHz. It did better in XP though. For obvious reasons, since it had a "Designed for Windows XP" sticker on it.
