Sharing Internet Connection Issue

So, I already made a topic, but nothing seemed to work. But now things have changed. Now I have to share the WiFi connection from my netbook (running Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit) with my desktop (running Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit) using an ethernet cable. Any ideas?

You are using WIFI for your netbook

And you want to use an ethernet cable through your desktop to connect to the wifi?

Why not just buy a wifi dongle if you want your desktop on the wifi

Then attach the cable from your laptop to you desktop, it may not work correctly 100% of the time so you may need to replug the cable/reboot the machine that is sharing the connection.

In this order: Router --WiFi---> Netbook ---Ethernet cable--> Desktop

 

And I'm not getting a dongle because I'm broke.

The opposite is true however. You can share WiFi for your laptop by connecting you PC to ethernet (if your PC had a dongle)

In network settings, bring up your network adaptors;

 

Select the first NIC (incoming, internet), CTRL click the second NIC (outgoing, desktop), right click "bridge". it will create, well, a bridge between the two.

 

I find this the easiest way to do it, even if it is dirty/cheating, use it on a switch to my Pi's through my main rig while the router is in the other room (moving out again soon, wewt).

One more question. When I turn my netbook off and my desktop and unplug them, what would the procedure be when I go to use my desktop again? Just turn them both on and plug it in, or the other way around?

The bridge will remain on your netbook, just deactivate when you unplug the ethernet. 

 

To get internet back, just plug it in and away you go!

I didn't deactivate it, but when I unplugged it, the icon shows that there isn't a connection but everything works fine, at least on my netbook.
