Hi Everyone, I'm posting here seeking advice on what RAM I should buy to go with my 1700x System. I was having alot of issues earlier because I was a bit of a derp and didnt select a compatible RAM kit, so I figured a good approach would be to seek the advice of those more knowledgeable than I.

Machine specs are as follows;

  • MSI x370 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen 7 1700x processor
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler
  • MSI GeForce 1080 Gaming X+ 8GB
  • SAMSUNG 960 EVO NVMe M.2 250gb SSD
  • Crucial 8GB DDR4-2133 UDIMM 8gb x 1
  • Corsair HX750i 750W 80 Plus Platinum Power Supply
  • Corsair Crystal 570X RGB Black ATX Case

My previous help thread is here, and it contains all the details for my system. I sent back the RAM and bought a cheap 8gb kit from a nearby retailer, and its been working a dream. I now have AU$ 349 to spend at http://www.pccasegear.com, and figure its about time I get some RAM with similar quality to the rest of my parts.
So, TLDR; What RAM kit should I buy for gaming use, with occasional streaming and graphic design / 3D animation rendering work.

Thanks in advance guys :-)

in the early days of Ryzen, RAM comparability was horrible. Large strides have been made and accomplished in the last few months to greatly improve it and nearly any and all RAM will work with the boards and are generally stable up to 3000mhz. Beyond that is still hit or miss, but you should be able to hit 2933 without much of an issue.

@Addaam

If your current memory is "working a dream", why bother replacing it?

The performance improvement of a faster kit would be measureable but likely not noticeable.

But if you want to upgrade memory https://www.pccasegear.com/products/38946/g-skill-flare-x-f4-3200c14d-16gfx-16gb-2x8gb-ryzen-ddr4 includes the MSI X370 Pro Carbon in its motherboard QVL.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

@brob Fair point, I should have mentioned i've noticed some performance issues when playing PubG, and while that is open I have frame drops if I try do much else. SO I figure a bit LARGER ram is what is innervating my change right now.

I'm glad to hear a lot of the compatibility issues have been resolved, I think that gskill kit looks excellent though.
