Finally moving to a SSD

chos5555

Hello, like the title says I'm moving onto a SSD(250GB OZC Vector), but I don't know how to migrate just the OS to the SSD from my WDC 1TB Black. Can you guys recommened me any program or just send me a link to a video that explains it or something? Thank you so much for your responses.

PS: If you need more info about my PC(or generally anything :D) just ask.

I was thinking about that, the thing is that I moved to the WDC black few weeks ago and I've done fresh install of Windows and I have had some problems with it(like needing to reinstall my games and stuff) and I don't want to go through that all again.

Its really all you can do. Cloning from a bigger drive to a smaller drive just doesn't work im afraid :(

Do a backed up then install windows on the SSD and choose the restore from a backup. But the fresh instal is easier and you get to spread your files across both drives.

Yeah that is also a thing, of course I can't copy 500 gigs of files onto 250 drive... But I saw Linus showing a program from Intel for moving OSs(I hope it was for that, else I'm dumb xD)

I have more files that space on the SSD.

fresh installs and game backups are the best idea

You mean just moving the games and programs 1 by 1?

Its still best to install a brand new copy so Windows will optimize its self for an SSD

http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

use that guide (assuming you are using Windows 7)

it will tell you how to go about everything, including splitting the user folders to have them on your HDD etc

Just back up all the files onto an external hard drive and then when you re install windows on to the SSD you can put all of your old files back onto by just transferring them from this external hard drive.

OK I suppose I don't have pretty much any other option...
