I own a 1080 in my rather old build, and i feel like an upgrade could help improve performance. I like to play games while watching video's on my 2nd screen, this will cause weird stutters and lags right now.

What is recommended to build around a 1080? Intel or AMD? How do i setup a my storage drives? Which sizes does one get? etc.. My current build is

Operating System
            Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
        CPU
            Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz    27 °C
            Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
        RAM
            8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)
        Motherboard
            ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z77-A (LGA1155)    20 °C
        Graphics
            Acer GD245HQ (1920x1080@120Hz)
            ROG PG279Q (2560x1440@144Hz)
            4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (MSI)    28 °C
        Storage

Okay. Wouldn't an SSD and a new hard drive be recommended? I'm planning on getting a new case as well, this current pc will get an old graphic card i've got laying around and will be my backup pc.

your old hdd is fine so no need to replace it. just get a good 240gb ssd like the hynix sl308 or crucial M/BX 300.

But don't HDD wear over time? This one is nearly 6 years old. I mean, i'm definitely getting a new one cause this one's filled to the brim. 2 tb should be enough. Also, if you've got an SSD is it still recommended to split the HDD up in raid? What is a recommended setup? Where do you install certain files?

Add an SSD. Upgrade to an 8600k or 8700k. Add another HDD if you want but do SSD and 8600K/8700K first.

just get a 1-2tb drive and use both as mass storage however you want, no need to use raid and just monitor drive health periodically for signs of failure.

OS and programs that take awhile to load/benefit from speed, non-essential programs and files to the hdd.

i believe it's a corsair 750 gold or so. But i'm getting a new case and psu with my new pc.

check which unit it is, there's a decent chance you won't need to upgrade it at all.

Well, i'm keeping my old pc as is except for the GPU, and building a whole new pc. So i'll definitely need another psu in order for both pc's to work.
