Total Host Writes

I just checked CDI on my 840 Evo, and somehow I have 2.7TB of total host writes in the 2~ years (and 4500 power on hours), but I had Windows 7, then Windows 10 installed on it, chrome, steam and the occassional benchmark tool here and there. Only recently did I install Dota 2 on it. So how did I reach 2.7TB of writes?

Probably from updates, moving data, etc. Typical OS operations. 

 

Also, remember that Steam and other programs do write data to the disk automatically and quite often.

Still, 2.7TB seems like a lot even considering all that.

I have almost that on my one year old SSD.

Just checked my 960 EVO and it has 9224GB NAND writes and 9224GB Host writes after one year.

But are you actually using your SSD for things and not just for windows updates/steam client writes?

It's my OS drive. Every program I need is on there, i.e. Office, browsers, Steam/Origin/Uplay, vet software, etc. All games are on another drive as well as their saves.

That's nothing, most SSDs will go for dozens if not hundreds of TB written before showing any signs of age

I know it's basically nothing as far as SSDs go, it just seems like a lot considering the use case it was under.

Not really.  I have almost 20 TB written on mine since ~2014.

What use case? It looks like an OS drive to me.

An OS drive on a system that I use almost solely for gaming and that has only Windows and Steam installed on the SSD.
