Helping buddy make a build

Hello all!

my buddy is looking at spending around $800 us on building himself a new computer for editing and gaming. He already has a few parts (ram, ssd, hdd, motherboard. He currently has a lga 1150 board (Gigabyte - GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard) I'm not sure what the best CPU for this model will be. I think we can build him a damn good pc for this price but I don't know whether to go i5,i7, or even Xeon (had no idea this was even an option on this board but apparently it is!?).

any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

He has 16 ddr3, 1tb hdd, 256ssd, and that motherboard. I think the vast majority is gonna be spent on the CPU and gpu since we can get a good case for 50 and ps for about 50 as well, and of course windows but that's not included in price since he can just grab it off an old pc he has.

go for a i7 4790k and a 1070-1080 then, that should all be within his $800 budget.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

1231 V3, 4770K, 4790K or 5775C, whatever is cheapest. 4790K will overclock the best.

1070, a decent PSU and a case should be doable with the rest of the budget. You may want to wait for the 1070 Ti. 1080 Performance for ~1070 price
