High temepratures with h100i v2

Hi guys.. I made a PC yesterday and i’m having a problem with cpu temps.

pc spec:

strix z270e motherboard

intel i7-7700k

gskill trident z rgb 2x8gb 3200mhz cl16

strix gtx 1060 6gb

corsair h100i v2 cpu cooler

When i first booted up the system i went directly to update the bios updates. After that inatalled windows 10 and all drivers for mb, gpu and cpu. The cpu had turbo boost activated and was running at 4.5ghz. I saw the idling temps of 36 celsius and i tought it was because of the turbo boost.. the problem was and still is that they are fluctuating a lot.. they jump from 36 to 44 , 54 also even if i only move the mouse.. after turning turbo boost off, I thought a this would settle, but no.. everything is the same. I reapplied thermal paste, assured everything was tight and still the same.. im thinking the motherboard sensor is broken.. i also tried running real bech stress test but it wouldn’t start because “error at gathering system information”.

Note the water temp in the cooler tab .

please help

thank you!

one thing to check is the vcore your motherboard is using sometimes they throw way to many volts at the cpu.

main system build --> i7-7700K (at 5.0 ghz), MSI Z270 SLI Motherboard, corsair vengeance lpx 8gb ddr4 2666mhz,  costume liquid cooling loop with 360 mm radiator on CPU, GTX 1080 gigabyte windforce OC, 1TB WD drive, 128 gb samsung nvme m.2, EVGA 850 watt semi modular power supply, CM storm stryker case (ya not ideal for costume loop), VIOTEK GN34C 34 inch curved monitor <----

Spoiler

thats good idle temps, you know that the liquid in idle usually is around 10°C hotter than ambient

Hmm, that's a little high but the chip just could be hot, it isn't far off what a normal stock i7 7700K would do. Did you tighten the mounts down enough?

Yours faithfully

the 7700k is kind of a beast when it comes to high temps. that v core is pretty high try manually underclocking. you should be able to get it stable at 4.5 ghz with less volts

it should idle around 28-29 ... the air that comes from the rad is cold tbh ..

There is no "should" temperature, with a stock i7 7700K it varies. Mine on custom water and 5.2GHz idles around 30-35°C, if the air is cold it can go down to 28°C, you're not gonna get that with a H1100I and stock TIM on that chip.

Yours faithfully

If you really want to find out if your cpu cooler is not working, put it under heavy load and check in. Idle temps do not necessarily tell the whole story.

What is your room temperature?

Z270 boards tend to over volt for stability if you under volt it so its still stable but lower vcore you will see a huge improvement in temps. i had the same issue on my 7700k

Take out your motherboard's manual and read what it is supposed to indicate when powered on. What I found was it stays powered on when the system is on.

And please answer to our questions about your issue, instead of posing vague questions.

please do a stress test, with out that you wont know if the cooler is actually doing its job.

Yep, as said above, put the CPU under some load. My CPU idles around 40-45c, but in gaming it only goes up to 55-60c. Idle temperatures don't show the full picture.
