You and I know that it's impossible to predict if there will be a crash or a bull run on any coin. Impossible. There is speculation of what some coins will do, but that never guarantees those coins will do well.

Profit selling USED graphics cards? He's not going to break even after doing the mining and the other stuff that's he's doing.

Unless his cracking and rendering stuff is made out of gold, profit will not be in his future.

Good luck with that!

Have you even seen what people are selling 570s and 580s for? They're going for like $300-400 on the used market. All the miners want these cards. Also, it'll be easy enough, just wait until the people who run ethereum announce the change, and then sell asap.

Think about what you said... now... those graphic cards are being sold at outrageous prices now...

How about the prices AFTER Ethereum goes full-on staking and stops mining altogether?

Do you honestly think that the prices of those graphic cards will be sold at those SAME OUTRAGEOUS PRICES? No!

Those RX 570s and 580s will flood the market big time.

In order to get rid of the excess cards they don't need... the sellers need to sell those at dirt cheap prices.

So... again... where's the profit?

Yeah they do. And you can do that.

1) Yeah but they're dirt cheap from moddiy.
2) He could buy 16 different RX 570s, in pairs of two.
3) Considering an RX 570 can do about 28 MH/s at a power draw of around 110W undervolted (or less), that generates a profit of about $13.75 a day for all 16 graphics cards, including power costs (assuming 12 cents a kWh). Which is about $412.35 a month.
4) Just for a record, ethereum is projected to have a difficulty spike when they change to a pos algorithm instead of whatever they're currently using, meaning that the value will go down as graphics cards become more useless to mine it.

1) Yep.

2) Yep. (though now, thanks to you, I'm looking at Vega 56s)

3) Those numbers seem a bit optimistic compared to the benchmarks I've seen, a 570 normally does something closer to 22 MH/s at 125W. $0.12/kWh is close, I'm at $0.13/kWh. I've used a calculator and with those numbers and six cards, we're talking about $22.14/week :) which is still nice. But with three Vega 56s, the power draw would be cut in half but the MH/s would be pretty close to the previous scenario, thus resulting in something more like ~$27.20/week.

Regarding #4, that proves the point that mining Ethereum would be a useless endeavor because Point of Staking is going to be the norm for Ethereum.

Why bother start mining when that will become useless sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2018?

I don't see the logic of mining Ethereum now or for the short term.

Because in 10 months I can make ~$1k, and the goal isn't to break even. The goal is to put this machine to use and pay for some of itself while I'm not rendering and/or cracking and/or other programs I'll be running.

I will try to predict coin crashes and sell those, but the machine will stay because mining is just a method by which I am recouping and justifying spending so much money on otherwise thankless operations (rendering, cracking, etc)

Maybe I'll just open up a password recovery business and charge $15 + $0.13 * kWh_you_choose to attempt recovery of a document or iCloud or etc.

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

Profit was never the goal...

Time saving was the goal because my 750ti can't do what six (or 16) of nearly any modern card can do.

Yeah, used goes for near new.
