Good morning, I'm getting a lot of black screens on my rig, just after I updated my motherboard, CPU and RAM.

It's a 7600k at 4.5Ghz, R9 390 Nitro, 2x4GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM with a 650W PSU.

I've also got a BD reader, gaming mouse and keyboard and the motherboard has got some RGB lightning.

Could my 650W power supply be failing me? I've thought about it being the GPU, but there's just no artifacts or anything that could point to a GPU failure, my system runs just fine whitout the GPU on it never crashes, but that could be because of the lesser power draw.

The GPU crashes no matter the driver/settings, it also crashes on Windows drivers, and it seems to be completely random.

One moment I've ran the ungine benchmark for 35 minutes, then I close it, open Steam and it dies. I get a black screen, the audio is stuck and the PC won't respond no matter what.

Then I run ungine heaven for 2 minutes and It crashes, or I run my pc without problems for 1 day, and get a random crash when I'm browsing the web.

Please write any suggestion you have, here's the list of what I did:

  • Clean windows 10 install
  • Clean driver install with ddu, even a driver that came before wattman
  • Using the pc with the integrated GPU (no crashes)
  • Changed the HDMI cable to a DisplayPort 1.2 cable, crash still happens
  • Memtest is fine, temps are fine, Windows says disk health is fine
  • Tried changing display scaling settings to "Full Screen", that was the first time the benchmark didn't crash my pc, but It crashed soon after I close it

I think it must be either the GPU or PSU, but I have no way to tell, I don't have other components I can test.

The GPU never shows any kind of artifact or something that could point to a failure, until the video driver just completely crashes and never recovers.

It could be that the GPU is faulty, or that the PSU can't give enough power to the PC and everything just shuts down...but every fan in the system is still spinning after the black screen, nothing loses power as far as I can tell

I can see that you are overclocking your processor , you want to test your psu right? without the gpu.. OC you processor and run some stress test if it shuts down or restart then PSU is faulty...

only 3 factors will be the culprit

*not enough power for proc and gpu

*faulty gpu

*faulty psu

Hi, thank you guys for your answers.

The system seems 100% stable and won't ever crash when I'm not using the GPU, even using intel burn test and ungine heaven at the same time.

I guess the GPU is the only thing that can be at fault, I'll try to RMA it, thank you!

I had the same problem.

Mine was the GPU, an RMA fixed it.

It's not a race to the bottom.
