I have been planning for a good two weeks on what parts should I get for a 'mid-range' PC build that can run any high-end game in at least medium settings. I've picked most of the parts with the help of an Excel spreadsheet and a list on PCPartPicker : https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/ry3ks3u_/saved/Qjwhqs

I would like anyone to give me suggestions and feedback about the list I've made, and what I messed up on.

Go for a Ryzen 5 1600 or wait for the 8600k instead, NVMe SSDs are a waste; you'd be better off getting an 850 evo, founders 1060 isn't a great idea, and the psu is kinda crap.

8600K will most likely be significantly more expensive than R5 1600 which will still kill it in multithreaded tasks.

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

u will still benefit from intels singlethread performance compared to amd, which is a huge advantage in singlethread applications ( look at game ports, mmos such as tera online ect ect )

Yeah, few percent (18% at the worst i think).

Ryzen platform will still be more futureproof and if GF is right, 7nmLP should have huge IPC performance gains, so if you get decent mobo now, you can easily upgrade in the future.

Change gpu to one with an aftermarket cooler, and for psu you could look at an evga g2/G3, whisper m, txm gold, or focus plus gold.

When OCed I think multi thread will be similar but 8600k will have 25-30% single thread advantage.

After punching in some numbers in the excel spreadsheet and comparing between the two suggestions you guys gave me, @dave_k's suggestion was cheaper than what I already had, by a measly 52 dollars. So I think I'll go for that one. Now I just need some case fans. Any ideas?

I almost forgot about a CPU cooler. Apparently, the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo I picked may need adjusting, as it porbably won't fit with the motherboard that you suggested. Is there a better air cooler for the CPU?

Why won't it fit? It might need a bracket, but that's not expensive. The 212 Evo runs my 1500X at 73°C with an ML120 and NF-F12 at 100%, in push-pull when running Prime95 28.10, so you might want a more powerful cooler for a 6 core. Something like a Dark Rock 3 maybe. You'll probably need a bracket for that one too

:)
