What cards can be crossfired w/ r9 290?

The 290X and the 290 are the only GPU's that can be crossfired with a 290. They are the only GPU's that have the Hawaii chip. The 7850 with not crossfire with them as it is not in the same GPU chip family.

I have access to a 7850 for cheap ( 50 bucks ), but as I understand it the 7970 is the only card you can bridge. Am I wrong?

Just an R9 290 can be paired with a R9 290. Only the 280X can crossfired with  a 7970.

No. You can XFire it with a 290X too, Tahiti and lower cards can't because they use bridges while Hawaii doesn't.

Soo sad, thanks guys. I remember the 280x was the rebadge.

 

Well by the time I'm ready to run crossfire I'm certain these cards will be cheaper, then I can spear head with a non reference :)

Seems backwards that they would start using the pcie slot for crossfire. You'd think they would have started there.
