Exchange a SK Hynix SSD M.2 for a Samsung PM961 M.2?

RRGT19

Hi,

I bought a Dell XPS 15 9560, it came with a SK Hynix 512GB NVMe M.2 as storage, it has 2,000 mb/s and 800 mb/s.

A friend has a Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe M.2 that came with a laptop that he had a few months ago, it has (according to Samsung's website) 2,800 mb/s and 1,600 mb/s.

He wants US $42.00 too.

The difference in speed between both drive is big, all of us know that Samsung hard drives are the best in the market.

This exchange worth it?. I have a 960 EVO in my desktop and I feel it faster opening programs and booting the Windows.

If in the future I want to change my SK Hynix for a Samsung hard drive, will be hard for me to sell the SK Hynix because no one knows about this brand, I think I have to grab this opportunity.

What do you think guys?.

another thing is that his hard drive only has like 2-3 weeks of use. The laptop that he had was dropped and the display was destroyed. He didn't have the option inside of the warranty to cover that type of accidents.

The hard drive is, practically "new".

He has the PM961 in his closet since then, yesterday we talked about this exchange because he wants a couple of dollars ahah

So, to resume, do you recommend me to do this exchange and give him US $ 42?, do you think I will notice any difference?.

Its a much fast ssd compared to read and writes so you will see a difference just make sure to give the ssd a test before you give him the money or its just going down the drain

STOP CALLING IT A DAMN HARD DRIVE lol

It's really not worth it to buy an NVMe drive but in this case it's an ok-ish deal, but you won't notice a difference.

Hynix is a very well-known brand, they make memory modules for many RAM companies and also flash storage like in an SSD.

if I put my Hynix hard drive on eBay, I doubt that anyone will have interest on buying it, because of the brand.

It is well known, but many actaully do avoid it, most people focus on the RAM of the deal instead of ssd. While Samsung has the edge in things such as ssd

Obviously the Samsung drive is faster, it's NVMe and 2x the cost. The Hynix drive isn't 'bad' or undesirable by any means; it's also a much better value than similarly specced Samsung models.

I know how you feel, but at the same time if he is looking to sell, the name samsung sells for ssd's. I dont mind the hynix ssd, and its speeds are quite good but at the same time it just wont sell as fast, people are selling on ebay in lots since the name isnt getting it sold is why I think he'd be better off cheap skating the guy and just giving him the 42$ and having a better all around time

$165/$167+ $42 = 207$/$209 vs the samsung being $299
