Hey all,

 

I just finished building my new 1950x Threadripper build. I was able to get a stable 4.1GHz overclock, but the voltage had to be 1.43v.  (over 3300 on cinebench, YeeHaww!!)

 

I don't have TOO much experience with AMD or overclocking in general, but my previous Intel 4790k I never went near that kind of voltage.

 

Does anyone know if this is okay or possibly some resources on Threadrippers max voltage/overclocking guide? I'm not finding much online because I guess it's so new.

Yeah like Seon said, anything under 1.45 is fine, long as its properly cooled.

I'd stick with 1.42v max, which is what a lot a people recommend.

 

1.45v may be the point from where damage inside the processor can happen over time, but if you set it to that value, the VRM will try as hard as possible to keep the voltage stable to that value but may react too slow to some variations in power consumption and from time to time the cpu may see 1.46v or something like that.

 

So sticking to 1.42 to have some margins would seem like a good idea.

awesome, thanks for the info.

 

I think i'm going to back it down to 4.0GHz, I don't want to live on the edge, squeezing out 100MHz and possibly risking damage, this thing is expensive! I was getting 1.39v ~ 1.41v at 4.0GHz and my temps are good I think, after a 2 hour stress test max temp was 77C, though down to 4.0GHz it'll prob be a decent margin lower.

 

I mainly render 3D objects and video with this beast, so I DO want all 16 cores at their max!
