Alright, so my GF has CenturyLink DSL and they just put in a new load-balancing modem, but its at the far left of the house. Can I use the old modem across the house for another AP on the same line? Or would using a Linksys Extender be a better idea?

Specs:

 Gaming PC: i5 3570, 16GB 1600MHz, GTX 780 3GB, Transcend 128GB, WD 500GB, Seagate 500GB, Thermaltake 600W Smart, S340 w/ RGB, Windows 10 Pro

 Server: Xeon E5 2650, 12GB 1600MHz ECC, 8400GS, WD 2TB + 1TB + 1TB, EVGA 500B 500W, Windows 10 Pro

 Laptop: Macbook Pro Retina 2013, i7 4558U, 8GB 1600MHz, Intel Iris Pro 1.5GB, Apple 256GB NVME, Mojave

 Internet: $70/month For 500/100, Actually get 525/102

Generally you can only have one modem per account. That being said, I have seen some people have multiple modems. Some times you will get charged a completely separate service charge for a second modem. Plus, I dont think you can run two internet connections on the same line with DSL. Your best solution would be running an Ethernet cable to the other side of the house and putting in a AP. If you cant do that look in to power line or moca adapters.

Wireless extenders will CUT your speeds in HALF. So beware of that.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Thanks for the info, back when they had 10mbit it didnt cut the speeds. Also i would run the AP off the extender which shouldnt cut it either.

Extenders tend to cut speed. Because one radio has to communicate with the router, then has to communicate with every device connected. Im tell you, I see posts all the time of people crying an wining that their extender is slowing them down. You would be better off looking in to power line, some times those have wireless built in. Or better yet, look in to a moca setup if you have coax ran throughout your house.

Alright, thanks. I just realised that all there phone lines are CAT5E cables that have 2 wires used. Ill try to get those switched to Ethernet. Thanks!
