How do I buy UPS tho? Is there specs that I should look for? or are they all the same?

if he does what is called a "home run", then no. It will be on it's own separate circuit.

specification are generally two fold: VA Rating and Watt rating. you want enough Watt rating so as not to demand more wattage than the UPS' inverter can supply. generally speaking for non-power hungry computers 390 Watts is plenty. however for today's high powered multi-core gaming computers, 500 should be the bare minimum.

If you satisfy the watt rating, you will generally satisfy the VA rating as well.

no.

See this webpage for a primer on Watts vs VA.

just out of curiosity, is it bad if my pc didnt properly shut down? how bad?

depends on what it was doing when it lost power. obviously if it was writing a file it would corrupt it. if that file was a critical system file, then it could certainly corrupt an entire OS.

well if you're dealing with critical files or on a RAID, i would absolutely use a UPS so that it can finish what it's doing (or at least halt a long process safely) to protect file integrity.

for example, a UPS on a NAS is something i would consider CRITICAL EQUIPMENT.
