So I'm building a new 2K gaming PC, I'm having trouble picking out parts, it seems from the leaked specs of Intels coffee lake it'll be way less powerful than Ryzens flagship the 7 1800X. So are the processors I'm looking into too powerful for just gaming, are they better off being used as Photoshop and design processors, or will bring strictly having processors be enough to get the best use out of them? This will be an air cooled PC and something quiet would be appreciated. The budget is $2000, excluding the 2k monitor which I can't decide on either. So should I wait for coffee lake to come out before making my decision? I can afford to wait, but I like to plan ahead, I'm not a Ryzen or Intel fanboy, so brand doesn't matter to me. Thanks guys.

if you can wait till 5th october then wait for coffee lake. coffeelake's IPC is higher than ryzen so it should perform better than it in gaming. are you just gaming or doing streaming/rendering/editing/etc.?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

I would imagine that Coffee Lake's release might affect Ryzen prices. I would wait the extra month and see.

A year ago one of my friends built a PC for $2000 (excluding monitors), he bought:

Z270 MSI motherboard

i7-7700k

NZXT 240mm AIO cooler

32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB

Corsair 750W modular PSU

GTX 1080

Some expensive case

Some expensive SSD

2x3TB hard drives.

I would imagine even spending a couple hundred bucks on a monitor, you could build something on par with this today for $2000.

You best believe there will be a lot of used 7700k available after coffelake launches.
