random wifi internet connectivity

So i'm unsure where the problem is here.

starting roughly a few days ago my laptop and a desktop in the house was having wifi connectivity problems which could be solved by reseting the router. however now my laptop has quite random internet access.

it can connect to the network every time just fine , but it's a tossup as to whether it has internet access. I can go from having no access , to reconnecting and having access for maybe 10 seconds , back to having no access , to connecting and having very slow access , to reconnecting and having perfect access. literally a tossup.

I've already played with a few router settings and did a hardware rest on it with seemingly no change.

Oh , and my wired pc works 100% fine at all times.

have you tried a firmware upgrade on the router?

1. Update driver for wifi

2. update router.

3. test the Ethernet on the laptop and make sure the internet doesn't drop.

No , the firmware worked fine last week so I assume the fundamentals of the internet haven't changed in the last few days

Check it anyways. bugs dont always present themselves right away.

restart the wifi card.. sometimes the invalid IP license is the problem.. or some sh*t like that..

if not, disable wifi in device manager, update the driver and enable it again.. restart the PC if necessary.

I had the same problem.. resetting the Wifi card solved the problem.. If you already did that and I didn't see you writing that, sorry

i'll give it a try but the issue is internet connectivity not really network connectivity. I can connect to the network perfectly find but I'll see if it does anything

sometimes they crop up 15 years later?

I had my DLink router for 3 years before my 2.4 Ghz radio started dropping out. Upgrading my firmware to DDWRT fix that problem. When ever you have any issues with your router like you described, the first thing to do is upgrade the firmware to the latest. If that doesnt work, then most likely your router is on its way out. Another thing to try, is feel the router, does it feel warm? If so, see about adding some cooling to it, like a laptop cooler. That could also be the issue, its baking its self to death.

Because at the end of the day if it only happens on one machine, then its most likely that machine, but if multiple machines are affected, then its most likely the router. You could also try reinstalling the WIFI card drivers on the machines that are affected as well. Though I think the issue is with your router.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

could there be an internal ip address conflict and if so how do I check and resolve it? could it be a problem with the subnet mask?

Not going to be a problem with the Subnet Mask unless you are trying to use a static IP. If you are pulling via DHCP then you shouldnt have an IP conflict either.

why is it that the router works fine with my phone , and the laptop works fine with other wireless networks. surely theres some form of conflict happening here.

If there was an IP issue, you would have no data going to that machine. All IP addresses should be assigned by the DHCP server on your router.

ok then what would cause the machine to connect to the router but not the internet? is there any one on earth who's ever had to diagnose this issue or am i the first?

I figured out what the problem was ty anyway

What was the problem may I ask? Only because it could help someone in the future.
