Please point out everything that could possibly be wrong with this build, while taking into account these notes:

  1. The case and disc drive are being used from a previous PC and will be used regardless of what other options there are. Don't argue with those.
  2. This build is a budget bang-for-buck build aiming at least some future proof-ness via upgradability.
  3. A GPU is not needed right now but may get added in the future.
  4. SSD would be a good thing to have but I'll let you tell me what it should be.
  5. This is a build for another person who knows something about computers but less of the hardware end.
  6. Thermal paste is not something to worry about.

With those, have at it.

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

1. Forgo the Cooler Master T4. I believe the stock cooler that comes with the R5 1600 is actually better.

2. Get a B350 motherboard so you have the ability to overclock.

3. You need a GPU because the Ryzen processors don't come with a iGPU. Meaning that in its current state, this build will refuse to display an image.

Thanks in advance

I'd step up to a B350 board, same price with more stuff.

Otherwise, seems really good.

Except no GPU. You need one. ^^

The Coolermaster might be quieter, no? Can't imaging it being worse, the 1600 doesn't run that hot to beginn with.

Ryzen doesn't have an iGPU, you will need a GPU.

The 1600 comes with a stock cooler, which should be as good as the T4.

Get a B350 board. Strix or Pro4 would be decent.

Get faster RAM

:)

Is overclocking worth it?

What GPU would be good to use so as to keep the price down but also not be a bottleneck or something that would need an almost immediate upgrade?

A B350 motherboard doesn't exactly cost a ton more. For the extra performance, I'd say it's worth it.

Isn't Strix somewhat pricy?

Why faster RAM, I thought 2400Mhz was already plenty fast. Then again I don't know much about Ryzen.

Where can I get more info on RAM speed influences with Ryzen? I think you're the second person to mention it but I'd never heard of it before.

If you just want basic output and minimal gaming - Get a 1050 or 1050Ti

Ryzen has Infinity Fabric which benefits from faster RAM and allows the dies to communicate between each other (or something along those lines).

Strix is a pretty solid board and shouldn't add but $10 or $20 to the overall price and allow you to squeeze more performance later on.

Daily driver for a techie. He will make use of all resources a computer for under $550 will have. A GPU wouldn't have been necessary if this weren't a Ryzen build though. He doesn't game or render anything.

Even an OC up to ~3.7GHz, the stock cooler is fine. It might not be the quietest but it's still enough for the most part.

Basic Output would even be only a GT 1030 :P

1050Ti for basic gaming.

1060 6Gb for bang/buck gaming and GTX 1070 for most other things.

I would suggest some AMD cards but they are way to pricey at the moment...
