Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem:

I have a Xonar DG, and a few months ago, the card would just output a loud static/crackling noise when I had the audio centre set to "headphone,: but went away when I switched it to 2 speaker mode. That was a problem because I produce music and need to take advantage of the built-in amp the card has. But yesterday, it started again. I have checked literally everything I can think of, and everything that other forums suggest.

Here's a list of what I've done:

  • Uninstalled/reinstalled drivers and updated them
  • Reseated the card on the motherboard (yes, it's all of the way in.)
  • Electrically insulated the card's backplate cover from the case
  • Rebooting
  • Checking for any open audio programs
  • Tried every audio mode
  • Uninstalled Teamviewer
  • Un-overclocking my CPU
  • Checking CPU Temps.
  • Custom and official drivers

All to no avail.

I've tried this with many pairs of headphones but my main cans are the HDJ-2000's.

Again, the problem only occurs when it is set to "headphone" output mode, but I need that mode because it's the only one that uses the built-in amplifier.

System specs for more detail:

  • Asus Rampage II Gene
  • i7 920 @ 3.6 Ghz
  • EVGA GTX 660 SC
  • 9 GB Triple channel RAM
  • OCZ ZT Series 750 Watt Modular PSU
  • NZXT H2
  • Asus Xonar DG

If you guys/gals have any idea what this could be, please let me know! Thank you so much!

sounds like electrical interference (sp?), or a dry/faulty connection on the card itself. Have you tried blowing some compressed air over the card (giving it a good clean), just to eleminate dust as a possible. Other than that I would think it could be the actual socket itself is damaged. Might be time to replace or RMA (if you can).

Solution: throw away the soundcard. Buy an external amp.

Oh, gee! I thought of that for a bit, but I looked at this huge pile of money I have just lying around and decided that I would rather bother you guys with my problems instead--mainly because there is absolutely no other reason why I might not have bought an external amp already.

Thank you for actually attempting a solution,

Unfortunately, I have tried the interference problem (#3 on my failed solution list), and it didn't work.

As for the dust, it's a very clean card right now, and I have tried airing out the PCI slot. Unfortunately I believe this is out of RMA range as well, so if this is a physical problem with either my mobo or the card itself, well I'm SOL.

That's your problem :P

But in all seriousness there was probably a short somewhere, did you EVER not ground yourself when touching ANY part in your PC?

I always ground myself, wear anti-static clothes, etc. It's a weird problem because it works outside of the headphone mode.

Right, because asking a few more forum dwellers for solutions you've already tried is a really good idea.

It has a bad capacitor most likely.  Hell, I think my Essence STX has a bad one too, most likely.
