Cisco 3750g 24 port

Does anyone have this switch? I'm thinking of get one. How loud is it? It's going to be in my room.

I know.. I've got 2 servers in my room at the moment and it's audible. It's fine.

Home network. I've got a couple of servers that I host some websites and some applications. I'm currently using a 100Mbps switch. I also do a lot of file transfer. So Gigabit Is needed. Also I've got multiple devices.

thats awesome. ive wanted to get a rackmounted server for some time for file storage but i cant justify the cost

It will be as loud as servers but the fans are tiny so its quite high pitched, depends on the temperature of the room.

You can get much quieter gig switches without going cisco, you can get passively cooled gig switches which make zero noise.

Because why not? It's fun to play with and learn.

 

I've got enterprise grade switches, dual servers for RADIUS/802.1x authentication, enterprise grade firewalls, and enterprise wireless gear because why not (and I have access to it through work )

Well. I've said in my previous post that I host websites and also some applications. I also do a a lot of file transfers. Also, I've got a multiple Cisco gear already.

A layer 3 still sounds like over kill

If the switch can be scored for cheap, it can be worth it but yah I see where you're coming with from the ROI perspective.

3750s aren't terribly loud unless you're pumping a lot of stuff through them.

The newer -X series can get loud with their PSUs but the fixed units aren't bad at all.

Those aren't bad either, same concept. The ones with built in power supplies like the earlier 3750 and 3750G models aren't loud, not any louder than the servers you've got. If they've got the removable power supplies then they can be a bit noisier.

Yeah mate, the 3750G isn't loud... Unless you have like 4 stacked with each other... 

 

It isn't silent like others, my 3750s are louder than my 3750g's and a single 2801 overpowers them all in noise LOL!

I'm planning to sell the ones I don't use anymore. I've got 2 2950s a 1760. I can sell them for £50.  I've got a 2811, 3550, and Catalyst Express 500 PoE

Yeah I recently bought another 4 3750's and 2 2960's for my switch exam, I too need to get rid of some 2950's and 2610's. I should of been a bit smarter when I bought my gear for labs but at least you get to experiment with different IOS versions unless you have contacts that will get them for you

No, current switch for CCNP.. Only passed my route last week! Got straight back on the studies haha
