Yes, it's totally compatible.

you need Bluetooth 4 for the AppleWatch to work, and apple doesn't take away features when they make new phones... right apple....

I was just wondering if my Series 1 Apple Watch is compatible with the new iPhone. On the apple website it says 5 or later. that might not have been updated.

Knowing Apple, they probably had the updated version of every page premade and ready to go at the touch of a button so they could all be released at once the instant the new phone is announced.  At least they should have, I wouldn't expect anything less.

My 6s is paid off and I dont want to upgrade unless I can still use the watch.

Honestly why would there be any reason for it not to be? Apple is extremely proud of the Apple Watch and they work with iPhones as far back as the 5 I think.
