New PC - Suggestions Appreciated

lugnutz11

Hello All!

I am a first time PC builder that has been doing research and I have put together a list of components that I think should fit my budget. I would love for some suggestions on how to improve it or just an ok if it looks good. I have absolutely no brand loyalty at this point since it's my first build so I am open to all suggestions. The main things I want to focus on are budget and performance. Let me know if I am missing anything, if everything is compatible, and just any general ways to enhance perforce without breaking the bank!

1. Budget & Location

My budget is right around $1200 it is pretty firm at that spot but that is only for the computer itself. Monitors and peripherals are not included in that budget. I am in the US so everything I have priced is in USD.

2. Aim

This computer is going to be entirely for gaming. Obviously I will be browsing the web and such while on it but gaming is the main focus. No streaming or content creation purposes as of right now. I want to be able to play most games in the highest settings. As for what games I like to play that's still up in the air as I haven't been able to run too many on my current PC so I am hoping that a new computer will open me up to a world of new games and such.

3. Monitors

I only plan on running one monitor but might upgrade to 2 in the future. I still need to purchase so any suggestions to get the most out of my build would be greatly appreciated!

4. Peripherals

I already have my peripherals and plan on running Windows 10.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I am upgrading because have loved playing video games my entire life. I have always wanted a PC to game on as I've used my school laptops most of the time since I couldn't really afford anything else. Now that I work full time and have some disposable income I wanted to get a gaming PC. Pre-built computers are ok but building it on my own sounds so much more personable. I currently use my MacBook Pro to play games on so I'm sure you can understand why I want to get a new PC.

EDIT:

After reading the comments (thank you!!) and thinking about it a little bit I was able to put this list together for the build. Comes in just over budget but with the massive upgrade in graphics card as well as an upgraded CPU cooler I think I am willing to shell out the extra $32 to make this build happen. Any thoughts?

couple things... Ryzen means faster ram is almost a must the performance uplift is worth every dollar.

secondly don't get a gtx 1060 3GB it's not a good buy, limited VRAM will hamstring your games and it doesn't have the power of the actual 1060, or rather if the 3GB is the actual 1060 nVidia should have named the 6GB 1060Ti... because that's what it is.

and i don't recomend the B350 Asus or MSI boards. AsRock are a better option.

Assuming you're willing to use rebates. Ended up at $1.57 over budget. Only thing I don't like is the colour of the RAM. Alternatively, you could spend more on the case and PSU, and change the GPU to the 1070.

You're right I think I left off the Ti because I had read exactly what you said about the 3GB and was planning on getting the 6GB, thank you!

I don't think I am ever going to stream so I think I will stick with the 1600, thanks for the input on the build!

Why such an expensive case? And no SSD? Ryzen also benefits a lot from faster RAM
