Hello, guys!

Hope you are doing well..

I have a problem I would like to discuss.. I am sure there are people experiencing the same thing here, so I am asking out for advice.

If people are thinking about having a stress filled job working out of hours - ask me anything, i will share my experience.

I am working for an IT company and my work is only during night time f.e. my shifts now are Monday-Friday 22:00 -> 08:00 in the morning.

This is extremely unhealthy. The only thing I am doing right is having 8 hours of sleep per day. I have been working like this for about 2 years now. I have gained ~ 20 pounds (10kg) of fat because of bad eating habits around the office and lack of motivation to exercise. I used to hit the gym 5 days per week, but could not find enough time/motivation to be working out with this schedule.

Any ideas on how to battle  the effects of working during the night? If there are madmen working on a similar schedule for more than 2 years I would like to hear their opinion as well.

Thank you.

I work overnights normally.  From 20:00 to 08:00 5 days a week.  Been doing this for the last 10 years.  After I get out of work I go to the gym for about an hour or so to exercise.  If not after I'll go before my shift.  I still get plenty of sleep and I still remain perfectly healthy.  So a 10 hour shift is not to bad.  On my days off from that job I do work another job as a mate on a fishing boat.  So I might put in 14 to 16 hours of work there during the weekends for me.  Haven't had an issue.  The only minor issue is once in a while my son has to be home with me when I get home from work so I can't sleep right away.  I have to wait for grandma to pick him up so I can get some sleep.

Sorry, this post won´t be helpful but I would like to work at night when I finish my IT degree, because I assume it is very quiet. Is that true?

I would not say its quiet. After all it depends on where/what are you working.

Don't. Get a new job. It takes years off your life and you never get enough sleep no matter what you try.

Been opening my store 24 hours my sister is on the day shift 9am-8pm and then me 8pm-5am for 1 years already..

After my sis is fell ill and i need money so i open it for 18 hours started from 8am.

TBH i feel like total shit right now..i was ok in the first 2 months but now i think my body cant handle it any longer.

If u gained weight then i am the opposite i've been lost weight not much though just 5kg.

Night shift is ok for me although sometimes the back of my neck feels kinda hurt.

My secret is drink a lot of water thats what my doctor said i didnt ask why but it worked.

But working 18hours/day everyday? if u have an option for not to do it then dont..

Yes working at night is always a bad idea because our body will heal and get much better sleep quality at night.

If u have another option i suggest to leave ur current job.

I drink a lot of fluids, that works indeed.

I'm 25 and I do not have kids, however I cannot imagine how you manage doing this... Respect.

The first thing I thought of changing right now is going back to the gym... I already bought a membership card.

2 years of night shifts are bad. There are people at my job that take noght shifts because they have to due to some rl things, and you can see the difference it's been doing them after a few months, let alone years. To put it shortly, it's not worth it. I like to tell myself that there is a reason why we sleep at night. I could go on and on about health issues as well.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
