upgrading from 6100 to ryzen or 6700?

timtexx

Hello guys , i have CPU that i want to upgade because i want to stream destiny again once it hits on the PC , now my CPu is 6100 i3 which is good for playing the game at 60+fps with my 480rx but i know it wont stream good since it only is a 2/4 CPU. Which cpu should i upgrade to in your opinion?

I wont be streaming all the time but i want to buy a cpu thats gonna last atleast 3-4 years ^^

I have 2x4gb of ram 2400mhz.

A gigabyte b150m mobo and a 480rx 4gb.

Thanks.

Buying a Ryzen also requires a new motherboard. Possibly a new ram kit if it isn't DDR4.

It's probably cheaper (depend on your region) to sell your CPU and get a i7-6700 (not K for sure) which is a good upgrade.

Since it's a 4/8 CPU with a good IPC and clock, it should last you for quite a while.

For te same performance you would need at least a R5 1600 + B350 motherboard, which should be about the same price.

A 1600 is probably a better choice as even a 6700 probably will struggle at streaming.

Skylake uses ddr4 :P

Yes.. and no.

Skylake can use both (1,35V DDR3), but Intel suggests to not use DDR3. You just need the right motherboard, like this: https://www.asus.com/it/Motherboards/H170I-PLUS-D3/specifications/

And in my experience it works fine (6400 with DDR3)

Raw performance in multithread, anything like the 1600 and higher it's better compared to the 6700.

I suggest the R7 1700 with a decent overclock for the best price/perf

yea but the 1700 is like a 100€ more expensive and i only use a 480rx , would it be really worht it?

And my main game is gonna be destiny which i think is good on the core Utilization.

I have a 1700 and a 580 on my home rig, there are cases where it helps a lot when you have multiple things running at once while gaming, so generally it is worth? Yes, if you are planning to stream, do more things at the same time and want to have 8 cores for the future (where games should be better optimized).

However, the 1600 with 6 cores and basically the same possibilities in term of overclock is a great second choice with a much better price.

In the end, I'm glad to have the R7, but realistically I probably would be happy the same with the 1600. The final choice is yours tho.

so the 1600 will be better than a 6700k? What happens if i keep the 2400 mhz crucial ram and  put it in my new ryzen setup? will it work fine? Or shoudl i get 3200 mhz ram?

For multithread, it is better than the 6700. The 6700K requires a different motherboard to be overclocked, and if you leave it to stock it will perform like the 6700 so.. I still recommend the 1600.

Yes, up to 2400 any ram combinations will work just fine out of the box (it's better to update the BIOS of your motherboard to the latest version anyway). Anything higher than that is silicon lottery on the CPU, as even 2667Mhz can be hard to obtain sometimes, but you can reach 3200 on some cases. There isn't much difference tho.

Ok thanks , so its not worht putting money in a 3200 mhz kit right? I guess ill just keep my Ram and upgrade em in the future :)

In the long run since you want to game and stream on the same computer the 1700 is going to be the better choice for your needs.

Since your more likly to upgrade your GPU before your next cpu upgrade the 1700 has you covered.

1600 will work but the extra 2 cores 4 threads of the 1700 in the long run you'll be happy to have them.

You want to get at least DDR4 3000mhz, 3200mhz seems to be the sweet spot.

With Ryzen its a must. You notice the difference when your running at 2400mhz vs 2966mhz (in my case)

You must be referring to Intel cpus. Ryzen has no issues with faster clock speeds, actually they love it. Every Ryzen CPU (with mobo bios having been updated) can hit 3200mhz ram speeds easy now.

I don't agree at all with the RAM thing, but you can do what you pref.

I tried 3 different brands and combinations, and while my CPU can get to 4,1 stable it just will never go at 2667+ on the RAM side and the difference was within 2 frames in real games.

Consider the Assu Prime B350 plus for your board as well. Its reasonably priced as enough features and lots of expansion room.

Anyone knows how a ryzen 1600 will perform on Destiny 2 with a 480 rx? vs a 6100 i3 ? that i got now

4.1 stable on Ryzen is great, grats. You got a great cpu.

As for the ram issues most likely is Bios related. Try a few bios version and you'll likely be good to go for most ram to Run at its max rated speeds.

If you trying to oc the Ram above the max rated speed then thats a whole other issue.

I stuck to 3,9 @1,375 for best stability but yeah, it's good.

I have a X370 prime and tried all the BIOS released except the very last one, it didn't change much up to now, I'll try again with the latest. Yep the ram is rated for 3200, it's a kingston idontremeberwhichonebutitsnotfuryx D:

I guess it would all come down to Multithread\core optimization in Destiny 2

I assume it would have some being a new game.

You should be happy regardless and it pretty safe bet that with 1600 the bottleneck would be the Rx480 not the cpu  :)
