Bought K702 - Not satisfied

I did buy them because I thought that my gaming headsets are bad in comparison (like the whole internet is saying)

After comparing them against my Turtle Beach for a long time I definitely find them better. But in comparison to my G430 they sound worse.

Im gonna try to explain the 2 sound signatures as good as I can.

The K702 sounds more clear in the highs and generally very clean.

The G430 sounds also clear but with volume or what you call it. Everything sounds fuller.

Like the highs sound more clean on the K702 while the highs on the G430 sound more fuller and realistic.

The bass response is also better on the G430. Maybe a bit too much.

So what I want now is to replace this headphone with a different one that would sound better. I mostly listen to electronic.

Does anyone have some recommendations? I will only listen to music and want to enjoy music. Highs are very important to me.

I also tried the DT880 but they just sound completely empty to me. Even less enjoyable.

If it helps here a little playlist of my favourite songs:

You bought headphones that don't fit your taste, it is as simple as that. What it seems that you want is a warm and lush sound, which you couldn't have gotten further away from with the k702.

The thing is also low quality audio often has this fake fullness to it, to make it sound better than it actually is. If you start to listen after details then you would quickly notice that your g430 can't even touch the k702s.

If I were you then I would look towards the HD650, their soundtage isn't great, but they do offer some of that "fullness" that you want.

Also maybe give the k702 a week or two and only use them and you are so used to the sound signature of the g430s. Also k702s are among some of the most "neutral" headphones in this budget area so they show pretty well how things would actually sound like IRL ofc this is relative to the price.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

I already have them for 2 weeks now and I non stop listened to music. I did try to look for detail in sound but still the g430 seems better. I DID NOT use the g430 the last 2 years. I used the Turtle Beach the last 2 years. Still I like the g430 more because it sounds better in my opinion.

Both the DT880 and the K702 are pretty bright/analytical. I'm thinking you would like the warmer, more fun sound of the Senheiser HD650. I have them and they are quite nice.

the HD650 are double the price though and they have less highs as much I know. Though I still need clear good sounding vocals. Vocals are the most important thing in songs. I already EQ'd the highs up a bit on the k702 and this way I hear more detail. (Which makes them better)

try HD 650 also I hope you have a amp. The K702 kinda needs a lot of power and clean power, so they scale pretty well from mobo to a good clean source, but not that well from one clean source to a cleaner source. The H650 would also like a amp a lot.

Better not to cheap out and end up with 10 $200 headphones you don't like and knowing you could have spent all that money on a HD800 instead.

He said he put more highs onto the K702, so HD650 wouldent be too good with recessed highs, for him. Hence why I recommended Grado.

grado is so bumpy though and the actual audio quality you get from them is rather meh, if you buy grado then buy one of the cheap models, like the SR60 or 80. At this point he might aswel go for dt990 with their highs.

Yeah, my measurement of the SR80e shows that. IMO they sound terrible now, but I used to like them

Rather not. I did try the DT880 and too much highs isnt good too, because as I said I tried the DT880 and they sounded much more empty in sound than the K702

Also yes I have an O2 headphone amplifier

TBF and I am not trying to be mean or anything like that, but I really suspect that you are so used to a low-quality treble that the higher quality treble sounds empty to you, an example could be that the mids flow over into the upper-mids and the upper-mids flow over into the highs.

I know what you mean when you say they sound empty and now all I can say is try Grado since their highs are also rather fucked and they should sound "full" to you, but don't go above SR80. I have a friend with kinda the same problem as you, though not to the same degree and he likes Grado highs.

yeah that looks bad, but now I am agreeing with you, that might just be what OP would like.

I also see the grados have a 2k peak. When I EQ that on the K702 everything sounds like out of the radio.

Maybe I'm just bad at explaining but with empty sound I mean that there were like only the highs without any low end on the DT880.

It only has like this punchy sound that I dont like but thats it with the bass on the Beyers. I just think I need more bass and clearer highs. (I dont even know myself)

well, that doesn't mean it would do that on the Grados.

Well the DT990 has more bass than 880, also now we are starting to get more into the core, I think you might like a bass that is a bit loose.

also, let me just compare 880 and 990, you can see a pretty big difference starting at 10hz and all the way up to 400Hz, which means more sub bass, more bass and more mid bass, which would give you a more "full" sound. Though I must warn you the highs in the 990's can be sharp and too much for some.

I would recommend if you can to try both Grado SR60/80 and DT990 at a store or something like that.

I think the best bet for OP is an audio store or audio meet where trying out various headphones is a possibility; right now the descriptions of sound signature feel self-contradictory and I don't think anyone here (OP included) knows what to be looking for.

That or try the used market; you usually break even when reselling things you don't like.

Well I didn't got too much out of this thread and as I can't test anything in a shop anywhere in my country I will just upgrade to the K712 after these.

Lol they are quite similar so I don't think you'll like them anyway.
