DP Daisy chain + HDMI

Hi all!

 

We're upgrading our computers at the office and have a display configuration in mind that I would love to just run by you guys (and girls!) to make sure we don't run into any unforeseen troubles. Especially given the fact that it involves daisy chaining through Displayport, which I have no experience with.

 

We're considering purchasing the Dell Optiplex 3050 sff. However, we need to be able to connect three displays and this particular configuration only has 1 HDMI and 1 Displayport 1.2 out. We've considered other configurations that would provide three display outs but they don't give the same value for money, or are under- or overspecced for our needs.

 

I was thinking of hooking up one monitor to the HDMI out and 2 to the Displayport out through a Daisy chain, purchasing only one monitor that supports MST (has a DP out).

 

I suppose my questions are:

If I set up a daisy chain through the DP, can I still use the HDMI out simultaneously?

If I want to hook up two displays to the DP out, will it suffice to have ONE monitor with MST capabilties (with a DP out, we're thinking of the Dell U2414h), and can the last monitor in the chain be any monitor that has a DP in?

 

Thanks so much for your time. I don't see any issues with this configuration but would love some confirmation before we splurge on a few of these sets.

Yes, you can still use the HDMI out if you have a DP daisy-chain going.

 

Yes, you can use monitors that don't support daisy-chaining as the last monitor in the chain. I've used a PA248Q at the end of a DP daisy-chain, which has a DP 1.1a port which was before daisy-chaining was even added. Running through a U2414H, incidentally.
