Did I mess up big?

I have a ryzen 1500x and I'm seeing a lot of people saying that those who bought a ryzen 1500x really got scammed because just for 20$ more you get 2 more cores and 4 more threads.

 

When I first bought my ryzen 1500x it was more of an emergency due to my old computer not working.

 

is the 1500x really that bad ?

Its not the worst for performance, but for value kind of. If you spent the extra 20 for a 1600, you would get the extra 2c/4t, and you wouldn't need to spend money on a CPU cooler.

No, but it is true that you probably could've gotten two more cores for not much more cost with current pricing. They're also binned similarly, so they'll overclock similarly.

if you dont want to overclock then its not the worst thing, but if you are up for it then the 1600 or 1400 are a lot better value

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Performance isnt bad. You just spent more than you should.

Not really.

 

It's still a fine CPU.

The R5 1400 has half the cache which actually results in quite a bit lower performance as the latency between CCXs is too high for L3 cache to reliably access between complexes (TPU did a pretty in-depth review and the chip lost to the G4560 even in multithreaded stuff - but the 1500X was above both those).
