Is this a good PC build?

r3zoar

So I was putting together my built for early 2018 today, and made a few changes, was wondering what you guys thought of it and if you thought and changes would be good.

==============================================

PSU: CORSAIR HX 1000i 1000w

GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 1080 8gb variant

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS ROG Maximus IX Formula

PROCESSOR: I7-7700K Quad Core

RAM: 64GB DDR4 3333 G.SKILL TridentZ RGB

CPU COOLING: NXZT RL-KRX62

CASE: CORSAIR Crystal 570X [tempered glass and RGB] [white special newegg edition]

And then just random hard drives ssds and an m.2 ill find sometime later before I build it.

Is that high clock memory really necessary for a intel build? something around 2800 to 3000 with low latency would be more beneficial and cheaper.

I thought that 3333 would be more beneficial in the long run as I could use it for another build, but I haven't decided fully on what clock memory it will be, I just know its probably going to be 64gb and my first impulse was to go with 3333.

Why so much ram and not opting for a 1080ti?

I was going to go for a 1080ti but decided it may be better to get a 1080 and then another one later if I want to put in SLI.

based on the intel and AMD architectures, high memory only benefits AMD. the skylake X intel cpus do see some benefit from increased memory speed, just not as much as amd. even amd only benefits up to around 3200MHz.

550w psu is enough to run this build.

I was thinking of adding another 1080 later though.

the PSU also looks like a bit of overcool. better going with a 700-800w, itll be way cheaper and wont change anything else or limit possible future upgrades

Do you really need that much ram for just gaming?

I'm worried about if something else comes out, like a GTX 1120 or something in another GTX series like that. Or [rare chance] a new CPU on the LGA 1151 chipset.

Firstoff, I'd suggest using PC partpicker.

second, what's your budget, I think I can make a better, cheaper build.

finally, that PSU is way overkill. a 450W PSU can run that just fine, maybe a 750W for 1080SLI (which I suggest not doing -- go for a single 1080Ti)

the wattage wont go up, maxwell to pascal was a 30% performance increase, and power usage went down. volta isnt set to come out for a while and when it does its power usage will be the same or better than pascals

8700k leaks are going around, shouldnt be out until very late 2017(unlikely) or through 2018(probably second quarter)

Is the 8700k going to be on the 1151 Chipset or the X299 or a different one?

What games could possibly use 64 GB? I know you want it overkill, but 16 is plenty, I dont see how you could ever need or use more than 32.
