G4600 vs i5 7400 worth it?

AimlessFlame

I will buy a laptop from eluktronics (W650KK1) for gaming purposes, yes i know desktop is better but i need the mobility. They offer the G4600 for $90 and the i5 7400 for $185. Are the actual 4 physical cores of the i5 really worth those extra $95 for gaming?

And yes, the laptop comes with desktop socketted cpu.

Definitely better for gaming. Also, congrats on getting one of the only DIY laptops on the market.

I would argue yes however that depends a little on what you are wanting to play. I personal want to see all single and dual cores die off but oh well...

Well I don't want to spend too much, i want to keep it aroung 850 max... How would you guys configure the laptop? I was initially going for the G4600, 2x4gb ram, 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd, and chose the extra cooling solution which means artic silver 5 since when i asked them what is the thermal paste they normally apply they just said "stock" so I just wanted to go the safe way there because I live in tropical climate 24/7.

EDIT: http://www.eluktronics.com/w650kk1 Check it out and tell me how would you do it.

The laptop comes with a 1050 Ti, right? In this case, I'd get a G4600 and put the remainder into the largest SSD that you're able to get.

Yes, I really don't mind the ssd spacee 128gb is fine for OS and some programs. I was wondering if I should invest in the i5, 16gb ram or idk lol

Wouldn't that hurt current performance too much? I don't plan on upgrading it until Q3 next year lol

i5 before the 16gb, you can upgrade the ram latter on cheaper than upgrading the CPU(If you can that is, not that familiar with eluktronics )

Dual core would hurt performance more than single channel
