Is this a good PSU replacement. I have an HP compaq 8200 elite CMT

I've never heard of them seems like it may be an off brand unit, also for prebuilt system you will want to confirm that they don't use any proprietary power connectors on the boards.

How do I confirm if its a proprietary PSU?

I have seen youtube vids where they use the same pc as mine  having an EVGA 500w psu where they use a 24 to 6 pin adapter.

Check the motherboard and original PSU connections in the system to see if they are non-standard.

So it means its a proprietory PSU?

Yes, that would seem to be the case, that connector near the DIMM slots has some power lines and some thinner wires which I can only assume to be a sense or signal line.

I think I understand this now. If I buy  a new PSU, I just need the 24 pin. Next thing I would do is buy a 24 pin to 6pin adapter.

Does all PSU come with P3 cable?

Not exactly, they are proprietary connections so you require an adapter with the correct pinout for that specific motherboard. I don't believe that is a regular unit where you will find adapters since it uses sense lines to probably detect if it's compatible hardware for it to operate.

No.  What's a P3 cable?  I don't see anything in your picture that's labeled "P3".

"Standard" PSUs come with a 24-pin, CPU power, a couple PCIe for an add in graphics card and the SATA and Molex connectors for drives.

From the looks of it, ALL of the connectors on that board are proprietary except for the CPU power connector (the four pin closest to the PSU).  I've never seen those "P16" power connectors in my life and that weirder looking one white connector next to those two.  It also looks like your SATA cables terminate to another connector that has the same wires as a SATA, but not the same type of connector.

I'm not sure where you're ever going to find an adapter for that thing.  Almost seems not worth it.  What's wrong with the PSU that's in there?  Is it dead?

No, it's garbage.

And take a look at the PSU:
If it has 12V Standby or 11V Standby, you can not use anything else.

If it has a +5V Standby, you can maybe/possibly with adaptors, BUT you have to buy one with DC-DC!

But it seems you're out of luck.

Look at the label: +12Vsb 1.3A

So you can't replace the PSU, you have to get one from HP!

You don't see many business class/lower end Servers from major manufacturers, do you?
Almost all of them have those +12V Only PSU.

Gaming PCs not so much, they often still have normal ATX compatible PSUs.

And the +3,3V/+5V VRMs are on the board, power for the drives comes from the Board itself...

Some of those still have a +5V Standby rail.
Some of those have a +12V Standby Rail.

Nope.  Left that life behind me over a decade ago.  I've seen a lot of proprietary Dells, HP's, etc. and have had to buy some adapter cables for them over the years, but this is the most Frankenshitstorm I've EVER seen.
