reference type cooler vs. 3 fan thingy (forgot the name lel). Reference is good for a small type case like ITX. 3 fan for the rest (mATX, ATX ect.). Get the 3 fan if you can afford it

Why replace the liquid cooler with an air cooler?

You don't have to but 240mm rads are as large as you can go with  S340 Elite case. However, there are pros and cons to an AIO, First, they can depending on the type and model, give you a more quiet experience because they give you more stable temperatures and therefore you can lower fan speeds. If you are planning to overclock, this is the way to go. However, the pumps inside of them can often be louder than the fans themselves and after a few years, you might need to refill the AIO or buy a new one.

So what would make the pump louder?

Im not to sure. I think it depends on the cooler.

But with my experience with the deep cool captain 120 ex mounting the radiator with the tubes exiting out the bottom ended up with the least air bubbles flowing through the pump. However, your experience will vary with different AIO's.

Yea sorry I was kinda joking there. But if you are willing to do lots of research and invest lots of time and money into your PC's custom cooling it would pay off.

Maybe later down the road busy with lots of things irl right now so i'd prefer to just have a basic build. :P I can shell out some money later on if I decide to do that.

Ryzen is still king not unless intel gets off their asses. I favored intel until ryzen came out.
