Keeping your computer on a rug?

Hey everybody!

I have recently started running out of room on my desk and soon will be getting monitor speakers which will leave me no choice but to put my computer on the floor. The floor unfortunately is a rug which will bring tons of dust and debris into the chassis. I have heard that keeping your computer on a rug in general is not good for the computer, I'm using the Bitfenix Prodigy M just so everyone knows. But, what is a solution to all this? Put a chair mat under the computer? Any ideas?

Plank of wood?

Anything that will raise it of the surface, basically anything you can get your hands on...dvd player? dvd cases etc :P

Why can't you keep the speakers on the rug?  This may or may not be a stupid question that can be disregarded if need be.

At least some cardboard under it. Or plywood, or a chair mat.

 

Or you could redo the flooring and put in hardwood  :P

It only really bad since it would suffocate the intake on a case with a bottom mounted power supply if the PSU is facing down, You won't have this issue with a prodigy M but a chair mat wouldn't hurt.

Exactly what I was thinking, any idea where I could get a small chair mat? I would use a plank of wood put that looks terrible imo

Ahh, that makes sense.  Just use like 2 books or some wood to raise the case off the carpet

these speakers are pretty dang big but that is an option, I would just rather have them right on the desk

Oh yeah, so you could hang em but I see where you are coming from with putting them on your desk. Just have something solid under the computer mainly I think.

Unless your speakers have mounts that can be used to give them an angle at which they point (ex. down), then I wouldn't bother with trying to move them around. Considering the case is already 'raised', I think placing something like a chair mat is adequate, heck- cardboard will work to.
